Movie Info

“Doctor Sleep” is the continuation of Danny Torrance’s story 40 years after the terrifying events of Stephen King’s The Shining. Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine.” Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality. Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before-at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.

Rage Reviews

Origin: 22/25

I was nice to see that they tried to keep what made the first film so good and build on that. I don’t think it can live up to the first film, but it does a good job at it. I loved the lore they included about the shine and delved further into the magic behind it.

Story: 20/25

A compelling story that had an okay ending. I liked the characters and how they developed through the film. It had a good flashback scenes to recap and summaries parts of the film. I wish it lent more on the horror aspect of it as thats what made the first film so successful, the scare factor wasn’t there as I felt the heroes were overpowered against the villain.

Camera/SFX: 22/25

Good use of effects, especially when there were magic scenes when they used their powers to go into one another minds, it was creative and allowed us to understand what goes on better. I felt the camera angles lacked a bit, especially when the suspense was needed and it couldn’t keep it going. CGI was good, nothing outside the box, but it was good.

Performance: 23/25

Another good performance from Ewan McGregor, he kept the franchise going and closed a chapter for old main characters. A surprise performance was from Abra Stone, for such a young actor she held her own, there may have been a few times where I thought she was questionable, but overall she did well. All the villains were grim in a good way and the leader (Rose the Hat) was fearsome and sis well to be Dan Torrance’s equal.¬†
